Vita was originally founded as Refugee Trust International, an organisation that worked to serve the needs of refugees across the world. Understanding that these needs could be better served by creating sustainable livelihoods in their home countries, our mission became exactly that – to facilitate communities to drive their own development and transitioning towards thriving rural economies through improved food security.

Today, after more than 20 years of work in the Horn of Africa, our mission is predominantly based in Eritrea and Ethiopia, two vibrant countries with fantastic potential. Our mantra is Vita – For Climate Smart Communities and we hope to extend our innovative and successful development models, such as the community led development model and the Vita Green Impact Fund to facilitate the transition to sustainable futures withj more communities in accross East Africa.
