ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER
OUR IMPACT
Why it Matters
Across rural Ethiopia and Eritrea, many essential community water points have broken down, forcing families to rely on contaminated sources—often several arduous hours walk away. Water must be boiled over open fires to make it safe, putting immense pressure on already depleted forests stripped for firewood and contributing significantly to carbon emissions.
Vita Impact repairs these waterpoints. As of March 2025, our teams have:
- Repaired 1,226Â community water points,
- Delivered safe water to 400,000 people
- Provided over 740 million litres of water to rural communities
- Transformed the lives and futures of 80,000 rural households
Each repaired water point is managed by a local Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Committee (WASHCO), trained by Vita Impact to ensure sustainability and long-term ownership.
Clean water changes everything. Without it, families face poor health due to waterborne disease, lost education, and local environmental decline. Girls often miss school to fetch water. Women lose time for income, leadership, or rest. Families burn firewood to make water safe— further damaging their health though household air pollution and accelerating deforestation.
