The ultimate target of potato seed multiplication project is to support and supply clean potato seeds to the end user of ware farmers of potato. This will enhance the production improvement of potato and improve the livelihood of the potato farmers as food and income.

Mrs Leteberhan Wolday is a female farmer of ware potato in a village named Shiketi of sub zoba D’barwa 20 kilometres south of Asmara City. She is 52 years old and lives with her 3 sons and 6 daughters. Mrs Leteberhan has 28 years of experience in farming.

She is one of the beneficiaries of the project in subzoba D’barwa. So far, she has got seed from MoA three times. She preferred to receive seed from MoA in particular the Electra variety because of its high yielding that gave her 120 quintal per hectare compared with the purchased one from other farmers which produced 80 quintal per hectare before the intervention

Mentioning the benefits obtained from the sale of the increased potato production she said that “she built one additional room, bought a TV, full house furniture and supported the wedding of her three children”

Finally, her recommendation to Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) was to supply enough Electra variety seed of potato to sub zoba D’barwa with fair price. She is one of the beneficiaries of the project from 700 farmers of sub zoba D’barwa
